lighthouses with a long tradition

Original light houses from the Erzgebirge with electric lighting are available in different sizes and designs in our online shop and create a cozy atmosphere, especially in the dark season. As a window decoration or as a village of lights, the light houses from the Erzgebirge are an appealing decoration of your living rooms during Advent and Christmas. Houses of lights already have a long tradition in the Erzgebirge and as early as 1900 the first examples were produced, at that time still illuminated with a candle.

light houses - designs and variations

Light houses are available in different models and sizes and usually represent typical sights of the Erzgebirge, such as the Seiffen church or the fortified church in Großrückerswalde. A house of lights is available from almost every place in the Erzgebirge, which embodies the typical identification mark that makes up the place. But also supra-regional motifs such as the "Frauenkirche" of Dresden, a gingerbread house or an Alpine church can be found in our online shop. In addition to well-known buildings, simple houses, such as forestry or Erzgebirgshäuser are also available. A classic among the light houses is the „Church of Seiffen“ and the matching village of lights. Groups of light houses, such as the village of lights of Oberneuschönberg or the village of lights of Seiffen, are still very popular. Of course, you can also put together villages of lights yourself from your own favorite pieces.

the original light house of Seiffen - gift idea for grown-ups and small

Light houses are a great gift idea for young and old, a nice souvenir of the Christmas holiday in the Erzgebirge or an absolute must for collectors. In addition to the examples of Seiffen, many more are available, so that there is something for everyone. light houses - history

Since 1900, houses of lights have been part of the tradition of the Erzgebirge, which is particularly evident at Christmas time. The people in the Erzgebirge had plenty of time to work in the dark, cold winter. So-called Christmas or home mountains were created, which often depicted the Holy Story, the work of the miners or the region of the Erzgebirge. This is where the first light houses were used. The local church, the school or one's own little house was put together true to the original in a small format made of cardboard. The houses or churches often stood in the windows, so that the children pressed their noses flat.

Today, the houses of lights are experiencing a renaissance, as they are particularly beautiful to look at and often have a direct connection to home. After all, who doesn't like to have a piece of the Erzgebirge far away in their home?

How are light houses made?

Lovingly handcrafted and with an eye for detail as well as with the working materials ruler, angle and carving knife, the well-known light houses by Birgit Uhlig from Olbernhau are still a popular piece of jewelry for the Christmas season.

The candles of the past have now been replaced by electric lighting and the carving knife by a punching machine. Then as now, the many small accessories and the individual cardboard cuts are still attached to the light houses in filigree hand work. So you can watch a little bird in the aviary or Santa Claus pulls the heavy sleigh through the snow-covered landscape. The snow is made of glass mica from Lauscha and glitters like real snow in icy temperatures.

You will also find wooden light houses in our online shop. These also have a special charm and spread a cozy light.

What models of light houses are available?

Probably the most well-known motif of a house of lights is the "Church of Seiffen". It is available in different designs and sizes and has been popular for decades. In addition to this house of lights, Birgit Uhlig from Olbernhau also reproduces many churches in the region, such as the fortified church of Großrückerswalde, the town church of Olbernhau, the "Dresdener Frauenkirche" or the church of Crottendorf. Forest houses, small houses from the Erzgebirge or even a gnome workshop are part of their range.

Just ask our competent team for your personal house of lights and we will help you to realize your dream.
