Who are the Olsen Gang?
First hitting cinema screens in the late 1960s, the Olsen Gang is a group of lovable small-time crooks who, despite elaborate planning, never quite manage to pull off their grand schemes. Their leader, Egon Olsen, is always fresh out of prison with a "foolproof" plan. He's joined by the jittery family man Kjeld, the fun-loving and clumsy Benny, and the sharp-tongued Yvonne, Kjeld’s wife and unofficial team boss. The gang’s escapades became cult classics, blending slapstick humor, crime caper antics, and satirical takes on bureaucracy — making the Olsen Gang a cultural phenomenon throughout Europe.
A tribute in wood and smoke
The Olsen Gang incense smokers Egon, Benny, Kjeld, Yvonne and Safe set captures this iconic crew in delightful detail. Designed by Armin Braun, one of the most beloved artisans from the Erzgebirge region of Germany, this handcrafted set includes four incense smokers and a replica of the famous "Franz Jäger Berlin" safe — a recurring element in the gang’s cinematic escapades.
Each character stands around 23 cm/9 inch tall and is made from native woods like maple, ash, alder, spruce, and beech. The figures are painted in rich, vibrant colors and dressed in miniature fabric outfits: Egon in his black suit and bowler hat, Benny with his checked blazer and yellow socks, Kjeld with his worried expression and briefcase, and Yvonne in a floral green dress holding a gossip magazine. The safe, made from wood but painted to mimic steel, completes the scene.
And here's the twist: the figures aren't just decorative. They double as incense burners (called Räuchermännchen in German), gently releasing fragrant smoke through their mouths when a standard 25 mm/0,9 inch incense cone is placed inside. The result is a playful and aromatic experience that’s both nostalgic and whimsical.
